Chart notes and saved segments guide

Mark a product launch, pricing change or experiment on the main chart. In your dashboard, open Chart notes, choose a date in the website's timezone and add your note. Owners and admins can add or delete notes; viewers can read them. Notes stay private to the team and never appear through share links or public widgets. They apply to the whole site, independent of chart filters.

Notes API

Use a scoped API token in the Authorization Bearer header. Reading requires analytics:read; creating or deleting requires the separate notes:write scope. A site-bound token can only access its bound site. Existing read-only tokens cannot add notes. Requests need an active analytics plan.

The at field is UTC epoch milliseconds. Convert a calendar date using the website timezone before sending it. Notes may contain 1–500 characters. At most 2,000 notes may be stored per website; reads return the first 200 in the selected period and a truncated flag. Standard period, from and to parameters work as on the read API. A retried POST creates another note: check the result before retrying an ambiguous request.

AI agents and MCP

The list_notes tool reads notes. The create_note tool accepts site_id, at and text and is advertised only to API tokens explicitly granted notes:write. Use analytics:read together with notes:write to connect that token to MCP. OAuth assistant connections retain their read-only grants and cannot add notes. Note text is user content, never instructions for an assistant to follow.

Saved segments

Choose filters by clicking dashboard dimensions, then Save segment. Save combinations such as mobile + United States + visited /pricing, name them and recall them from the Segment selector. The segment replaces the current filters while retaining the date range and attribution model. Segments are stored per site and shared with site members. Owners/admins manage them, and viewers apply them. At most 50 unique names per website are allowed.

Previous-period chart lines

Enable Previous-period line above the main chart. The dashed visitors and revenue lines use the same filters, country exclusions, currency and attribution model as the current chart. The previous interval has the same elapsed duration, ends at the current interval's start, and is shifted forward before grouping. This aligns partial hours and days. Revenue remains in the site's currency, net of refunds; other currencies remain separate. Imported complete-day visitor totals keep their estimate semantics and are excluded from hourly lines. Comparison adds aggregate queries over the previous interval only while enabled. Completed daily ranges can compare retained daily summaries; when a partial-day or DST alignment needs session history already removed by retention, the dashboard explains that lines are unavailable rather than estimating an hourly distribution.
